Monterey Herald: Vacation rental group files lawsuit against county, board of supervisors

The Monterey Herald reported on our work on behalf of our client, the Monterey County Vacation Rental Alliance:

The Monterey County Vacation Rental Alliance announced it has filed legal action against the county of Monterey and the Board of Supervisors — opposing the board’s stricter vacation rental policies.

The Vacation Rental Alliance, a nonprofit organization of vacation rental property owners in the county, made the announcement Nov. 27 saying the restrictions take away affordable housing options, and shows bias against people with second homes in the county.

”The board majority’s discriminatory primary residence/ownership requirement violates the United State Constitution’s Interstate Commerce clause,” said Frank P. Angel, an attorney representing the alliance.
